Menstruation, or period, is normal vaginal bleeding that occurs as part of a woman's monthly cycle. Menstruation times is one of the stressful time for women. Pain that women get with  menstrual period is called dysmenorrhea (dis-men-uh-REE-uh). Pain is the most common problem women have with their periods.


More than half of women who have periods get some pain around their period. We normally see the leave policy of corporate company, there are several leaves available such as sick leave, casual leave etc. Have you ever think about the leave a women can take on their menstruation time. Some of the corporate company think about it and initiate it in their leave policy, its a great move right?. 

India is not the first country to consider period leave or time off for female staff. In fact, in many countries like Japan, South Korea and Italy menstrual leave is part of women employees’ leave policy. Here I'm listing some of the company which provide Period leave for women.

ZOMATO

Zomato is one of India's best known companies, with more than 5000 employee to take 10 days paid leave in a year during the period.

Zomato became the first high-profile corporate organization to do so. "At Zomato, we want to foster a culture of trust, truth and acceptance. Starting today, all women (including transgender people) at Zomato can avail up to 10 days of period leaves in a year," said  Deepinder Goyal, founder and CEO


CULTURE MACHINE

In july 2017 Culture Machine, a Mumbai-based digital media startup made a headline when the company announced good news for its women employee and allowed them to take a day off on the first day of their period.

MATHRUBHUMI

Malayalam media organization Mathrubhumi allowed its women employee to stay at home on the first day of their menstrual cycle.

"It was an eye-opener as channel workers do have a stressful job and work odd hours. They often work for extended hours. We need to understand that during menstruation, they might be grinding their teeth to subdue the pain. Do not think of it as sympathy; it is more of understanding women"-Mathrubhumi's  joint managing director MV Shreyams Kumar.

SWIGGY

Online food delivery company Swiggy has taken a unique initiative for its female food delivery partners. Swiggy has announced to give two days monthly "time off" ti its women delivery partners.



Discomfort from being out and about on the road while menstruating is probably one of the most underreported reasons why many women don’t consider delivery to be a viable gig.  To support them through any menstruation related challenges, Swiggy introduced a no-questions-asked, two-day paid monthly period time-off policy for all  regular female delivery partners. This industry-first initiative gives  female DEs the option to voluntarily take time-off during their menstrual cycle and be eligible for a minimum earnings guarantee during that time
